How Reverb fees work

Reverb, the marketplace for musical instruments and gear, charges a selling fee of about 5% of the item price plus the shipping you charge, capped at $500 per item, so very expensive gear pays a smaller effective rate. On top of that, Reverb Payments processing runs about 2.7% + $0.49 per order in the US. Optional Bump promotion raises your listing's visibility for an extra percentage you set, charged only when a bumped item sells.

Because both the selling and processing fees apply to shipping, factor shipping into your pricing to protect your margin.

The formula

buyer total = item price + shipping charged
selling fee = min(buyer total × 5%, $500)
processing = buyer total × 2.7% + $0.49
profit = buyer total − item cost − shipping cost − all fees

Worked example

A $1,000 guitar with $50 shipping, no bump: selling fee = 1050 × 0.05 = $52.50; processing = 1050 × 0.027 + 0.49 = $28.84; total fees = $81.34. If it cost you $650 and shipping cost $40, profit = 1050 − 650 − 40 − 81.34 = $278.66.
