Selling on eBay.com.au costs you a final value fee (FVF) plus a fixed per-order fee. The final value fee is a percentage of the total the buyer pays, which includes the item price and any shipping you charge, and, where applicable, sales tax. On top of that, eBay adds $0.30 per order. Optional Promoted Listings ads charge an extra percentage of the sale that you choose.
Most categories sit around a 13.4% final value fee, but rates vary: media like books, movies and music runs higher, while a few categories such as guitars or high-value sneakers are lower. eBay Store subscribers pay a slightly reduced percentage in many categories, which is why this tool includes a store toggle.
You sell a $100 item with $10 shipping charged, at the 13.4% rate, no promoted ad. eBay's cut is 110 × 0.134 = $14.74 plus $0.30 = $15.04. If the item cost you $40 and shipping cost $8, your profit is 110 − 40 − 8 − 15.04 = $46.74.
| Category | Final value fee | Per order |
|---|---|---|
| Most categories | 13.4% | $0.30 |
| Books, Movies & Music | 15.3% | $0.30 |
| Jewelry & Watches | 15.0% | $0.30 |
| Coins & Paper Money | 13.4% | $0.30 |
| Guitars & Basses | 6.7% | $0.30 |
| Athletic Shoes (over $150) | 8.0% | $0.00 |

eBay collects and remits sales tax in most states; the FVF can apply to that tax. This tool focuses on item plus shipping for clarity.
