Volume ↔ Weight

mg to mL Calculator

Convert milligrams to millilitres using a solution's concentration (mg/mL) or a pure liquid's density. Milligrams measure mass; millilitres measure volume.

For a pure liquid, use its density × 1000 (e.g. water = 1000 mg/mL).

How it works

Mass and volume are linked by concentration or density. Dividing the milligrams by the concentration in mg per mL gives the volume in millilitres. For a pure substance, the concentration equals its density in g/mL times 1000.

mL = mg ÷ concentration (mg/mL)
Water: 1000 mg = 1 mL (density 1 g/mL)

Worked example

A medicine at 100 mg/mL: a 500 mg dose is 500 ÷ 100 = 5 mL.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert mg to mL?

Divide mg by the concentration in mg/mL. 500 mg at 100 mg/mL = 5 mL.

Is mg the same as mL?

No — mg is mass, mL is volume; you need density or concentration to convert.
